PB role: detailed design of remedial works, in joint venture

Following on from our investigation of safety issues and remedial works for Happy Valley Dam for SA Water, PB, in joint venture, carried out the detailed design of the remedial works for the Happy Valley Dam (capital cost $14 million).

The construction works were undertaken while the dam was below full supply level (FSL). Works included excavation of a trench up to 6 m deep, some 20 m in front of the current dam toe. The factor of safety (FOS) against a slip failure during the works was theoretically lower than the FOS which currently exists for the dam. On completion of the construction works the FOS against dam failure was greatly improved.
