Innamincka Geothermal Power Project

PB role: design, prepare procurement orders, manage construction

Brisbane-based company Geodynamics Limited awarded PB the engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) contract for the pilot test facility in its landmark geothermal power project near Innamincka, South Australia. The Cooper Basin site at Innamincka is the largest known geothermal reserve in the world, with an estimated generation potential of over 10,000 MW.

PB will design the pilot test facility, prepare procurement orders for contracting by Geodynamics, and manage construction. In a closed cycle, the pilot facility will pipe hot water up from a depth of 4 km in one hotwater well, extract the heat in heat exchangers, and then reinject the cooled water into another well. The facility will be installed during 2008.

Geodynamics Limited is a pioneer in hot fractured rock (HFR) geothermal energy in Australia. PB previously completed a study of power generation technology options for the project.
