PB role: environmental impact assessment, geotechnical engineering, environmental and planning support
Project Magnet involves the commercialisation of OneSteel’s magnetite iron ore resource and the upgrade of Whyalla Steelworks. The project will allow OneSteel to increase output, extend the life of Whyalla Steelworks, and reduce production costs.
PB completed the environmental impact assessment and documentation for the necessary approvals for this project. In conjunction with the OneSteel project team, PB also provided geotechnical engineering support for the new facilities, which included a new concentrator at the mine site, a tailings storage facility, a slurry pipeline and a new export facility at the steelworks.
PB also provided the necessary environmental and planning support to the project during execution and construction. This included developing environmental construction management plans, and finalising marine studies in relation to various shipping options that were under consideration.
