Tasmanian Government GHG inventory

PB role: g
reenhouse gas inventory data base, energy audit, recommendations for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and energy efficiency, feasibility assessment for solar energy installations

PB developed an innovative web-based database that captures the data on energy use and calculates greenhouse gas emissions for all Tasmanian Government departments (by department, source and scope) and allows for ongoing progress monitoring.

PB also conducted energy efficiency audits of 25 Tasmanian Government buildings. As a result, PB identified opportunities for achieving a 25% reduction in energy use in major government buildings and assessed the feasibility of installing solar panels and solar hot water systems.

Overall, the process provided the Tasmanian Government — the first Australian state government to conduct a whole-of-government greenhouse gas inventory — with comprehensive recommendations for managing and reducing its greenhouse gas emissions in the future.
