Columboola to Wandoan South 275kV Transmission Line and Wandoan South Substation Project, and Wandoan South to Queensland Gas Company Woleebee 132kV Transmission Line Project

Powerlink Queensland has engaged specialist environmental consultants Parsons Brinckerhoff (PB) to conduct an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and undertake community consultation for the proposed Columboola to Wandoan South 275kV Transmission Line and Wandoan South Substation Project, and the Wandoan South to QGC Woleebee 132kV Transmission Line Project.

As part of the EIA, Environmental Impact Statements (EIS) for both of the projects outlined above have been prepared. These are formal reports produced in consultation with landowners, stakeholders and the community, which identify any potential economic, social and environmental impacts from the proposed new transmission lines and proposed substation. The reports also outline how these impacts will be managed/mitigated.


About the projects

The Surat Basin is experiencing rapid growth driven by developments in the energy and resources sector. Powerlink's Columboola to Wandoan South 275kV Transmission Line and Wandoan South Substation Project is the first stage of a broader plan to extend the existing high voltage electricity transmission network into the Surat Basin to meet the long term needs of existing and emerging electricity customers in the region.

Powerlink has a mandated legal obligation to develop its network to maintain high reliability standards as demand for electricity grows. The proposed new transmission line and substation that form this project are needed to ensure the continued reliability of high voltage electricity supply in the Surat Basin.

As outlined above, Powerlink has been asked by QGC to identify easements for, and construct, a short 132kV transmission line to connect its Woleebee site to Powerlink's proposed Wandoan South Substation.
